When IAS Awanish Saran took charge as district collector in April 2018 of Kabirdham district in Chattisgarh, one of the first things he did was take on an initiative named the ‘Sangi Express’
Now what is this ‘Sangi Express’?
It’s a one-of-a-kind system where Mr. Saran arranged for bike ambulances to reach remote villages of the district for healthcare.
The Sangi Express has 4 main objectives.
- Decreasing child mortalities
- Accident trauma transportation
- Reducing villagers migration to other states due to healthcare
- Strengthening preganancy related care under the Janani Suraksha Yojana.
Mr Saran joined hands with Aanganwadi (rural child care centre), ASHA workers (community of social health activists) and Gram panchayats to Spread awareness.
How does it work?
Every Village is allotted a specific number which is distributed to every household. The person who needs assistance gets in touch with the bike ambulance through the Aanganwadi or ASHA workers.
Additionally this initiative has generated employement and empowered women to understand their ‘Right to Health’
